Energy dispersive X-ray diffraction study of KNbO3 up to 19 GPa at room temperature

Energy dispersive X-ray diffraction was used at room temperature to investigate the phase diagram of the KNbO3 perovskite up to 19 GPa. The results confirm the location of the ferroelectric-paraelectric transition at similar to 9 GPa and support the transformation of the orthorhombic solid to the tetragonal solid in the 4-5 GPa pressure range. The variation of the cell volume was fitted to a Murnaghan equation of state whose parameters are discussed. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
