This paper is concerned with the development of an interactive simulation platform, which consists of the eight parts: (1) scanners, (2) grid generators, (3) models, methods, and solvers, (4) visualization and post-processing, (5) reservoir engineering tools, (6) CAD of simulation, (7) upscaling and pseudo-functions, and (8) industrial applications. This platform is fairly general and can be applied to many industrial areas such as developing improved methods and technology for enhanced oil recovery, assessing groundwater contamination by hazardous wastes, controlling air quality, designing semiconductor devices, and manufacturing high-quality fiber-reinforced plastic composites for automotive and aerospace applications. As an example of the applications, we will describe each of these eight parts in the area of petroleum reservoir simulation.
