Integrated nutrient management in sorghum (Sorghum bicolor)-based cropping system

摘要
A field experiment was conducted during 1991-92 to 1996-97 to study the economical feasibility of sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench]-based cropping systems and to work out the integrated nutrient management in these cropping systems. There were 6 cropping systems and 4 nutrient management treatments. In cropping system sorghum in rainy (kharif) season, followed by safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) in winter (rabi) season (double cropping) gave the highest productivity as well as highest monetary returns, followed by sorghum intercropped with soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] in 3:3 row proportion. In sorghum-cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) year-to-year rotation system (single crop system), productivity and monetary returns were found to be low. Recommended dose of fertilizer (to respective crop) remained productive and profitable than other nutrient treatments tried.
