摘要
In this study, Elaeagnus angustifolia L seed oil has been investigated as a novel feedstock for biodiesel production. Elaeagnus angustifolia L seeds were collected and, after drying, their oil was extracted. The maximum oil content of the seeds was found to be similar to 18%. The physical and chemical characteristics of the oil were investigated. Biodiesel was produced by a using the transesterification reaction. Reaction parameters such as methanol to oil molar ratio, catalyst concentration, reaction temperature and reaction time, on reaction efficiency was investigated. The highest biodiesel yield was obtained (about 95%) at a 9:1 methanol to oil molar ratio, a catalyst concentration of 1% of the oil's molar weight, a temperature of 60 degrees C, and a reaction time of 60 min. Also, the properties of biodiesel were determined. The result shown that the physicochemical properties of Elaeagnus angustifolia L biodiesel complies with the criteria dictated by ASTM D6751 standards. Finally, it can be concluded that Elaeagnus angustifolia L seed can be introduced as an environmentally friendly and suitable alternative fuel.
