Magnetostrictive generation of longitudinal-mode guided waves in ferromagnetic pipes

摘要
This paper investigates the problem of magnetostrictive generation of longitudinal guided waves in ferromagnetic pipes. In modeling, electromagnetic theory is used to find solutions for changing electromagneticfields induced in the pipe. The solutions are used to obtain magnetostrictive force terms in an elastic wave equation for solutions appropriated to continuity of normal stress across cylindrical boundaries. Then, the last step is the use of modal analysis to quantify the coupling between the electromagnetic and elastic field. The performance of the model is demonstrated by computing the amplitude of the propagating longitudinal modes (L(0,m)) excited in a ferromagnetic pipe for a given solenoid configuration. The advantages of this model are numerical results can be obtained with greater simplicity when compared with previous schemes found in the literature.
