Web services based mediators for digital libraries

This paper presents a mediator service for digital libraries developed with the goal of a transparent integration of digital library services into other applications or web services. The mediator is based on web services technology for providing a flexible solution. Starting with an analysis of most common digital library services, some meta data formats and web services are developed which form an easy mediator for the integration of digital libraries into almost any kind of application. We show the application of such services for the digital library eVerlage. Afterwards it is shown how this mediator services fit into the LEBONED-project whose goal is to use existing digital libraries in learning environments.
