(Chemical Equation Presented) A single (or iterative) insertion of alkyne units into metal carbene complexes, accompanied by alkoxy exchange, occurs readily to give elusive alkynyl-(alkoxy)carbenes (see scheme) as well as polyalkynyl(alkoxy)carbenes.
