The article presents the implementation status and prospects for the development of the energy management system according to the requirements of the ISO 50001 standard. The following study uses the case study method. The research was aimed at indicating the approach of the selected organization to the issues of energy efficiency and implementation of the energy management system. During the study, the focus was on identifying the benefits of effective energy management, costs resulting from the Energy Efficiency Act, the degree of maturity and organization's awareness in the implementation of the energy management system according to the ISO 50001 standard. The experience of the analysed organization shows that white certificates are a source of support that should be taken into account when planning pro-effective investments. Increasing energy efficiency is extremely important for the organization being investigated as it contributes to the reduction of operating costs. Implementation of the energy management system according to the ISO 50001 standard contributes, to a large extent, to the improvement of energy efficiency. Moreover, having certificates - contributes to the increase of customers' trust and meeting their needs and expectations.
