Octahedron and hollow sphere CoS2 with high crystallinity were controllably synthesized by a facile microwave-assisted hydrothermal method without adding any surfactant. The effects of preparation conditions on the phase composition, CoS2 crystallite size and morphology were studied. The phase compositions depended on the pH value of the mixed solution and reaction temperature while the morphologies were controlled by heating rate. The reaction time for the synthesis of pure CoS2 was shortened greatly under the effect of microwave, exhibiting more superiority on time efficient and energy efficient than other methods.
