摘要：

The title racemate, C12H16O3, aggregates in the solid state as translational acid-to-ketone hydrogen-bonded catemers. The stereochemistry of the side chain relative to the ring junction arises spontaneously during the synthesis. The four hydrogen-bonding chains passing through the unit cell are of alternating handedness, and are aligned along the [101] direction. Starting at the origin, the order of the directional alignment of these four chains with respect to the a axis is ++--. One intermolecular C-H center dot center dot center dot O = C close contact exists to the carboxyl O atom.
