The ability of the regular solution theory to estimate CO2 solubilities in halogen containing liquids is analysed, both from the point of view of the activity coefficient equation and from that of the set of parameters of the gas. A regular solution type equation was proposed in a previous paper, for the estimation of the activity coefficient of a gas like CO2 (whose molecules do not have a permanent dipole moment, but-contain strongly polar bonds), dissolved in a polar liquid, modified by addition of a term containing the quadrupole moment of the gas molecule. The prediction accuracy was about 12%, for solvents in which fluorine is not the predominant substituent. In the case of fluorinated solvents, empirical values of the solubility parameter, obtained from solubility data for other gases should be used, in order to estimate the solubility of CO2.
