Electrochemical synthesis and behavior of polyparaphenylene films prepared in the presence of surfactant

By the anodic polymerization of benzene in sulfuric acid in the presence of sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate as surfactant the uniform layers of polyparaphenylene with linear chain structure and high degree of polymerization on the stationary Pt, graphite electrodes were prepared. Cyclic voltammetric curves in the inorganic and organic media show that the rate of charge-transport processes and redoxstability of PPP films depends on nucleophilic agents presence and electron-donor (acceptor) properties of solvents. The reversible electrochemical behavior is observed in sulfuric acid solution (C > 10 M) and in organic solvents with donor number DN less than or equal to 15.
