Understanding the ability, and inability, of high-resolution ultrasound to guide thyroid nodule evaluation

Ultrasound is the primary tool used to initially guide clinical decisions about newly detected thyroid nodules, and numerous ultrasound-based risk stratification systems have been developed that allow low to high cancer risk stratification. These systems can similarly assist with risk assessment for follicular thyroid carcinoma, but with important cautionary caveats.
