Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders include different types of pathologic processes affecting each of the joint components: mandibular condyle, glenoid fossa, and articular disc. This article describes the various pathologies found in the TMJ and discusses the imaging techniques that provide additional information about these conditions. In addition, the article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques and demonstrates their application to the diagnosis and surgical treatment planning of temporomandibular disorders.
