Endogenous bioactive peptides are important regulators of diverse functions of the organism. Their actions are mediated by specific receptors on cell membrane. This paper briefly, reviews the approaches for developing and applying peptide receptor agonists and antagonists for activation or inhibition of these receptors, which can fundamentally affect cellular function in both health and disease.
