摘要
The methods for preparation of active carbon monoliths (ACMs) have received great attention, due to the high performances and wide applications of ACMs. The preparation methods of ACM have gained many developments since 2009, but their classification or review has not been updated. Herein, we propose to classify the preparation methods as binder-using and binder-free, according to the monolith formation mode. The former method is further classified as organic-binder-using, inorganic-binder-using, and composite-binder-using, while the latter is classified as the use of monolithic carbonaceous precursors (CPs), polymerization of CPs into monoliths, and extrusion of CPs into monoliths. Based on this classification strategy, we summarize recently reported works regarding ACM preparation, and review advantages and drawbacks of the preparation methods. Finally, we propose issues worthy of subsequent research. The research is favorable for preparation of porous carbons with high performances in adsorption, separation, or catalysis.
