Refraction of surface plasmon-polaritons at Au-Al boundaries observed by scanning near-field optical microscopy

摘要
Surface plasmon-polariton (SPP) propagation was investigated experimentally on a heterostructured metal sample consisting of in-plane Al and An films. A scattered-type scanning near-field optical microscope (SNOM) was used to observe the wave vector and intensity of the SPPs. Interference fringes appearing in the SNOM image clearly bent at the interface between Al and Au, indicating a definite refraction of the SPPs. The observed bending angle of the interference fringes was in good agreement with a corresponding simulation and theoretical analysis using Snell's law.
