A wave guided barrier to isolate antiplane elastic waves

摘要
Wave barriers have been commonly used to reduce impact of ambient vibrations. In this paper, inspired by the concept of the invisibility cloak and Fermat's principle, a new type of wave barrier, named as wave guided barrier, is proposed to effectively isolate areas of interest (e.g., buildings) from vibrations due to antiplane elastic waves. This new wave guided barrier is made of anisotropic metamaterial with layered structure and can guide the elastic waves to propagate along specific direction. Wave propagation characteristics of anisotropic metamaterial are first derived. Then, a specific wave guided barrier is designed. The designed wave guided barrier only uses two materials commonly used in practical engineering. Numerical results from both frequency domain and time domain analyses showed that the wave guided barrier can effectively isolate antiplane elastic waves. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
