摘要
The introduction of modern shape control technologies in hot strip mills imposes significantly elevated contact pressures resulting in a higher incidence of spalling failures in work rolls. To establish the essential parameters for crack tolerance analysis, the fatigue crack growth rate and fracture toughness properties of typical work roll materials were evaluated. These results along with FEA estimates of peak service stresses and evaluation of residual stresses in the roll body can be used to develop nondestructive inspection criteria for preventing service failures.
