The first two patients with dura mater associated Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in the Netherlands

Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) can be transmitted through human growth hormone or gonadotrophin administration, dura mater or cornea transplantation, depth EEG monitoring and the use of contaminated neurosurgical instruments. We describe the first two dura mater associated CID cases in the Netherlands. Ten and fourteen years before the onset of symptoms both patients received a Lyodura implantation. Findings are discussed in light of the growing epidemic of CID among dura mater recipients.
