摘要
Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp., cultivars exhibit variations in architecture which are considered to influence resistance or susceptibility to the legume pod borer, Maruca testulalis and other major insect pests. Recent studies have shown that in combination with other traits that confer resistance, architectural (or phenetic) resistance can significantly reduce insect pest damage to cowpea if used as an IPM strategy. Cowpea breeders should, therefore, emphasize these traits in breeding programmes for multiple insect pest resistance.
