MARKET MODELS AND THEIR APPLICATION IN THE POWER SECTOR

Next challenges for Polish electric power sector, including: the development of renewable energy, implementation of environmental Directives of the European Commission, program for the construction of nuclear power and change in architecture of the electricity market in the country require both from the perspective of the whole sector, and from the perspective of the each power company an exploration of new analytical capabilities for identifying the medium- and long-term market position of those companies. One of the interesting possibilities give market models (also called market simulators) mapping the power system operation, including processes related to market-based covering of end-users demand for electricity, taking into account existing circumstances and role in the process of production of individual companies and individual generating units. The paper presents the characteristics of examples of tools belonging to the class of market models and the practical possibilities of their use.
