Experimental analysis of a composite steel-concrete slab

The biggest advantage of composite steel-concrete slabs lies not in the usage of steel sheet as a permanent shuttering, but in the constitution of the bar reinforcement designed for a positive bending moment, and the time and money savings connected with it. The calculation of longitudinal shear resistance of composite slabs is the most complicated part of design, due to its determination only by testing on large scale samples. The design of composite slabs is regulated in Eurocode 4 but does not prescribe the design of slabs with plain sheets. The research of smooth sheets, their interaction with concrete, and a combination with end anchorages are necessary due to the worldwide availability of these kinds of steel sheets. In this article we are going to experimentally verify the design of such sheets on six large scale samples by measuring of deflection and slip of concrete against sheet.
