Unemployment and health

Unemployment which is associated with social, psychological, behavioural and health problems cannot be considered (on humane as well as economic grounds) a purely personal matter, a problem or the state of an individual, but a serious social issue the adequate solution of which is in the intel est of society as a whole. Unemployment creates inequalities of opportunities and leads to inequity which must be eliminated. After mol e than ten years of social transformation the unemployment problem is becoming ever more urgent in also in this country. The paper submits a review of contemporary findings and hypotheses on the relationship between unemployment and health and deals with selected moderating (modifying) and protective factors linked with this relationship.
