MOMENTS OF ITALIAN CULTURE BETWEEN THE NINETEENTH AND TWENTIETH CENTURIES. PROVINCIAL AND CITIZEN IN COMPARISON

After moving to the city, the young provincial intellectual is disoriented. His hosts, smiling at his clumsiness, impose him defensive operations, which undermine his personality and are for him a training of integration. Passed the test (with greater or lesser speed and dexterity), he feels himself morally and psychologically distant from his place of origin; and he does not wish to go back there anymore. The feeling of nostalgia for the countryside is an exclusively city feeling.
