摘要
Since the stroke is the second leading cause of death around the world, this paper presents a computational model to facilitate studying the behavior of blood flow in a stenosed carotid artery using the finite element analysis (FEA). A 3D carotid artery models were studied: normal and stenosed carotid artery. Blood is assumed to be non-Newtonian and incompressible fluid. The physiological properties of blood are changed to demonstrate the difference between blood flow in blood diseases like diabetes and anemia. Expressions for wall shear stress, velocity have been obtained. The results show that the wall shear stress values were up to 22% near to stenosis, especially in high viscosity blood. The disturbed flow patterns and oscillating velocity indicate that the vulnerability of plaque formation is high in such places.
