Complexation of the NOBIN-derived Schiff base ligand 1 with Pd(CH3CN)(2)Cl-2 has been observed to result in a novel Pd-C bonding mode and theoretical calculations based on B3LYP density functional theory have been carried out to clarify the reaction mechanism.
