摘要：

The South Bohemia Region was for the years typical example of peripheral region. It has changed after the year 1989, after accession of the Czech Republic to the European Community and mainly after accession to the Schengen space. In this context is still more attention paid to reduction of negative influences of its peripheral location to social and economic development of this region. The paper is focused on main features of regional development of the South Bohemia Region and also connection with regional policy of the EU is considered.
