The 110th Congress saw the passing of several legislation and regulations last year. One is an energy bill signed by President Bush which is about several provisions aimed at decreasing the energy use of buildings. The law also has a say on a net-zero energy commercial building initiative conceived to establish a research, development, demonstration and deployment roadmap for the construction of net-zero energy buildings by 2030. Another is a legislation that would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide a shorter recovery period for the depreciation of HVAC&R systems installed in nonresidential real property or residential rental property. Yet another is the achievement of a 30% reduction in energy use and a final rule meet such requirements.
