A Low-cost IoT Mobile System for Monitoring Vital Signs of Elderly People

摘要
Elderly people need properly care in order to avoid falls and to have their vital signs monitored by family members or caregivers. Internet of Things (IoT) has a lot of products in the market to help the elderly. However, most of these products can only be acquired by upper class people. This paper proposes a low-cost trustful system for monitoring vital signs and providing basic life support for the elderly. The system consists of vital signs sensors coupled to a glove and a mobile app. The glove collects measurements of heart rate, blood oxygenation, environmental temperature, atmospheric pressure and detects whether the elderly person has fallen. The app shows the data collected by these measurements in real time. The system is based on the concept of Internet of Things (IoT) and uses the Firebase platform to store the data, presenting it in the mobile application. The proposed system present cheaper costs and equivalent measurements in relation to the market products.
