Electrical conductivity and thermoelectric power of SnTe-based alloys doped with Fe

(SnTe)(1-x)(Fe2Te3)(x) alloys were synthesized, and their electrical conductivity and thermoelectric power were measured in the temperature range from 100 to 1000 K. The band gap was found to decrease from 0.32 to 0.16 eV as x increases from 0.01 to 0.05. The temperature dependences of electrical conductivity and thermoelectric power exhibit extrema at about 800 K, which shift to lower temperatures as the Fe content of the alloys increases. The proposed empirical formula provides a good fit to the measured temperature dependences of thermoelectric power.
