High friction coefficient of fullerene C-70 film

摘要
The frictional behavior of spheroidal fullerene C-70 has been studied for the first time. For the sublimated pure C-70 films on Si(001), a high friction coefficient was observed under different pin materials. It changed from 0.5 with an Al2O3 pin to about 0.9 with a 440C stainless steel pin. The relatively high friction coefficient of the C-70 film was due to the tendency of the C-70 particles to clump and compress into a high shear strength layer.
