The water utility operations division (WUOD) of Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD), which is located in California and provides water supply and water shed stewardship/flood management for Santa Clara County, got initial success in establishing an asset management program (AMP). AMP began in the WUOD in 2002 and things done over past five years to establish AMP, include standardization of asset management terminology and a general approach, approval of more resources, and improvement in decision-making. The improvement in decision-making took place at both SCVWD and within the WUOD by establishing a district wide asset management council to determine customer service levels, authorize expenditure, and approve implementation strategies. The asset management is very easy program that can be started easily in one part of an organization and it has also been noticed that AMP has begun to provide long-term benefits.
