On Image Reactualization in the English Versions of Qiusi from the Perspective of Palmer's Cultural Linguistics

Gary Palmer, the American anthropologist, who studied the thinking mode of different language users of different cultures by the image, proposed a theory of cultural linguistics, and he took image as one of the key concepts of cultural linguistics. Image has close relationship with language and culture. Chinese classic poem always gave the beautiful images to the readers with several words, but if the readers want to understand the images, they must have the similar experience with the writer. Therefore, this theory has an innovative significance to the image reactualization in the translation of Chinese poetry. This paper will make a research on the comparative study of Chinese classic poem Qiusi and its English versions, and discuss the image reactualization from the perspective of cultural linguistics to expect this theory will bring more inspiration to the translators who are interested in Chinese classic poetry.
