摘要
A new approach was proposed in [Kedrov, 2001] for calibrating criteria of identification (discriminants) of underground nuclear explosions (UNEs) in regions where UNEs were not detonated by adapting such re-ions to a reference region with the use of earthquake data. A stable platform area of Eurasia including the Semipalatinsk test site (STS) in Kazakhstan was chosen as the reference region; estimates of regional discrimination criteria in this region were obtained from large samples of UNEs and earthquakes. Taking into account the importance of versatile calibration of the global network of stations incorporated in the International Monitoring System of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, this work continues studies in this direction with the use of records of STS UNEs and earthquakes obtained at the Talgar (TLG) station. It is shown that, utilizing the recognition functions previously obtained for the reference region, the TLG discriminants corrected for the trace enable the identification of 100% of UNEs and about 85% of earthquakes. A large sample of earthquakes in a study region is required to obtain reliable distributions of discriminants and reliable estimates of the coefficient of discriminant attenuation with distance.
