Features of low-concentration aqueous solutions of tetramethylurea

摘要
NMR spectroscopy, piezometry, and small-angle X-ray scattering have been used to study aqueous solutions of tetramethylurea (TMU) in the nonelectrolyte concentration range 0-6 mol %. The results have been interpreted in terms of the hydrophobic hydration of a TMU molecule and hydrophobic interactions in the system. No large aggregates (larger than 18 Angstrom in diameter), such as clusters, particles, or microemulsions, have been found.
