摘要
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) in infants and children often go undiagnosed because primary care physicians do not recognize the signs, which are distinct from those in adults. Diagnosis of UTI in this age-group is also complicated by the difficulty of collecting uncontaminated urine specimens for culture. In this article, Dr Bartkowski discusses the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of UTI to prevent complications, including kidney scarring that may lead to hypertension and renal failure.
