Vaginal birth after previous cesarean section

A retrospective study of case records of 171 women with history of previous cesarean section was undertaken at the department of obstetrics and gynecology. Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences Islamabad: during the period Oct 96- Oct' 97. Our aims were to review the indications for primary cesarean section and see the outcome of trial of labor in order to compare the maternal and fetal morbidity; and cost effectiveness following VBAC and repeat cesarean section. A total number of 136 patients with history of previous one cesarean section and 35 patients with history of previous 2 or more cesarean sections were identified. Although a formal trial of labor was given to only 100 patients with history of previous 1 LSCS; 2 patients with previous two cesarean sections delivered vaginally as they were fully dilated at the time of their admission in the labor room. Induction with prostin E2 vaginal tablets was done in 25% patients. 84/100 (64.7%) delivered vaginally. The cost in repeat section group was significantly high with a higher maternal morbidity percentage.
