Prognostic factors and cytogenetics of head and neck carcinomas

摘要：
Currently most prognostic factors in squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck are based on clinical and morphological parameters. Tumorbiological examinations however are not frequently taken under consideration. Biological parameters with probable influence on prognosis are: 1) morphological tumorfront grading, 2) quantitative DNA anaylsis, 3) proliferation markers, 4) expression of oncogenes and cell surface markers, and 5) reoccurring pattern of chromosomal aberrations. These parameters are discussed and their prognostic significance as well as the probable consequences for the clinical management are reported.
