Speed dating: A combinatorial assay was developed for screening a library of aromatic heterocyclic amines for their propensity to act as a complementary base Z in a DNA duplex. This assay may prove useful in speeding up the process of base-pair discovery for potential applications in biotechnology and synthetic biology. © 2011 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
