A Manuscript of the Chevalier des dames from Lyon

A collection from documents relating to a family dose to the Lyon consulate and dated between 1460 and 1470 is now at the Municipal Archives of Lyon among some accounting documents. Among them are the fragments of a manuscript hitherto unknown of the Chevalier des dames, a romance in favor of women by an anonymous poet, the "Dolent Fortune," from the mid-fifteenth century. These pieces, representing a total of fifteen percent of the text, come from different partsof the book, which allows us to reconstruct part of the original manuscript. The text itself links this manuscript to a family of manuscripts that had previously been dismissed by the editors of the text, despite certain interesting characteristics such as the connection with printed books. The study of the latter also allows us to show that this allegorical text had an important legacy, in particular thanks to the fact that allowed it to reach a wider audience.
