摘要
Multiple risk factors predispose infants to develop food allergies. Food allergies are categorized as IgE-mediated, non-IgE-mediated, and mixed reactions, and each varies by clinical presentation, allergens associated with its development, and diagnostic criteria. Multiple strategies exist to prevent food allergies, but only a few are backed by evidence and proven to reduce the risk of development. The primary treatment for both IgE-mediated and non-IgE-mediated reactions is complete avoidance of the specific food allergen known to elicit the response. The first-line treatment for anaphylactic IgE-mediated reactions is epinephrine. Novel treatment modalities aiming to eliminate food allergies or help speed up the desensitization process are currently being used or investigated.
