摘要
To take any satisfactory mitigation strategies to reduce the adverse consequences of any hazards, what kind of problems are introduced by the hazard is very much fundamental to know. The present study aims to find out the effect of river bank failure on vital social institution like marriage of the people who are living along the river banks and continuously facing the problem of river bank failure. To identify connection between river bank failure and marriage a model has been fitted in this research and the fitted models have been tested on the 19 erosion prone study units beside the river banks of Ganga-Bhagirathi at Jangipur sub-division under the district of Murshidabad in West Bengal. The outcome of this research shows displacement of people is the prime effect of river bank failure. A significant close connection between displacement of people as a result of river bank failure and marriage has been observed here. First and second fitted models exhibit that variable like displacement of people as a result of river bank failure (with beta values 1.023 and 0.714) has highest explanatory power to simplify the variable marriage. River bank failure introduces very adverse consequences on marriage of the erosion victims.
