An Investigation into the Use and Teaching of Language Learning Strategies by Non-English Majors and English Teachers in Independent Institutions

摘要
This study attempts to investigate the similarities and differences between college English teachers' teaching and non-English majors' use of language learning strategies based on questionnaires, class observation and face-to-face interview toward 159 non-English majors and 21 English teachers in an independent institution in China. Analyses indicate that significant statistical differences exist in all the six types of strategies between teachers' teaching and students' use, but there is consistency in several of the most frequently used and taught ones. Reasons are analyzed and suggestions on how to improve the teaching of language learning strategies in independent institutions are put forward.
