摘要
Metal-on-metal (MoM) pairings have been widely used for conventional total hip arthroplasty and hip resurfacing. If local or systemic adverse effects of MoM implants develop, revision may be indicated. Depending on the type of implant as well as the failure mechanism and the observed tissue reactions around the prosthesis, revision surgery of MoM devices may be challenging. The aim of this paper is therefore to discuss reasons for and outcome of revision, to present a standardized diagnostic algorithm for decision making, and to address technical issues of revision procedures.
