The Effect of Community Attachment on Support for Tourism Policy: Evidence from Perception of Macau Resident on Individual Visit Scheme

The policy named "Individual Visit Scheme to Macau" enhanced the prosperity of tourism industry in Macau. Meanwhile, it brought a lot of economic and social issues to this destination. Attitude towards tourism policy can have a substantial effect to destination sustainable development. To explore how community attachment influences the resident attitude on tourism policy support effectively, this article investigated the relationship between residents' perceived tourism impact and attitude on resident support for tourism policy. Based on a PLS-SEM analysis from Macau resident perspective, the findings showed that the community attachment has a positive effect (direct and indirect) on resident support for tourism policy. The results also confirmed that the economic acquisition is still the first consideration to the residents in the destination, where tourism is a domain industry. Moreover, for Macau case, age of resident could have moderate effect on the relationship between community attachment and resident support.
