Petter Naess is Professor of Urban Planning at Aalborg University, Denmark, and senior researcher at Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research, Oslo. Originally educated as an architect, Naess holds a doctoral degree in urban and regional planning. He has for many years carried out research into issues related to sustainable urban development. The prime focus of his research during recent years has been the influence of urban structure on travel behaviour. Other main research topics are planning theory, philosophy of science, and driving forces of urban development. Naess' international publishing covers all the above-mentioned topics, with the relationship between urban form and travel as the core issue.
