Effects of potential and loading frequency on corrosion fatigue behavior of 2205 duplex stainless steel

摘要
Corrosion fatigue behavior of 2205 duplex stainless steel (DSS [UNS S31803]) in 2 M sulfuric acid (H2SO4) + 0.7 M hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution at various loading frequencies and under selective dissolution conditions was investigated. The mechanical and chemical effects on the fatigue crack initiation as well as crack propagation were analyzed using micrographical examination. The experimental results showed that the fatigue life in the mixed acid solution was frequency-dependent, and almost one order of magnitude lower than that in air at 1 Hz. The micrographical examinations indicated that selective dissolution of the constituent phase could affect the fatigue crack initiation process in a complicated manner. The fracture surface morphology could also be modified by selective dissolution, the extent to which was dependent on loading frequency.
