Worldwide distribution of deep-water fluid venting and potential occurrences of gas hydrate accumulations

摘要
Geological investigations of the World ocean during the last decade have revealed about 70 deep-water fluid vent sites and their sea-bottom indirect indications. We have reason to suppose that most of fluid vents located within a gas hydrate stability zone are associated with gas hydrate accumulations. This type of accumulation is of special interest because they are formed close to the seafloor; they are relatively free resources and possibly could become one of the first productive gas hydrate formations to be exploited.
