We discuss a phenomenological model, capable of reproducing the effect of potential well distortion and of saw-tooth instability on an e-beam propagating in a storage ring. We study the same effect when the Free Electron Dynamics is included. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
